anafranl is a tricyclic antidepressant drug (TCAs). it is the choloro derivative of the chemical compound imipramine. which is a serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor, increasing the levels of two hormones in the body, hence improving their work in the body.

Anafranil which is known by its generic name clomipramine is a tricyclic antidepressant drug that is used for treating obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). it is used in order to relieve repetitive thoughts and behaviors and depression. and also other psychological disorders. It is also used to treat primary premature ejaculation in certain cases.

anafranil for sex has proven efficacy

Anafranil is only used for people who have primary premature ejagulation. (who already has a problem) to increase the latency of masturbation from approximately 1 min to more than 3,5 min on average.

This was shown in a study that was made on twenty-three premature ejaculators (PEs) and 11 control (healthy) subjects. They were administered 25 mg of clomipramine in a double-blind crossover design study.

So to sum up, anafranil can be used to make you last longer in bed if you have problems with ejaculation and premature masturbation. but not to make you last more than normal. as it cannot be used in erectile dysfunction and impotence.

the study revealed the efficacy of anafranil in treating erectile dysfunction and increasing the latency of ejaculation with an Intravaginal ejaculation latency time (IELT) of less than 1 minute.

while paroxetine had no effect if whatsoever on ejaculation

both drugs had non-sexual mild but disturbing side effects.

regular use

anafranil for sex regular dose is mostly decided by your doctor and usually taken at bedtime to prevent mild drowsiness during the day and reduce the symptoms.

anafranil for sex has a long half-life, which is up to 32 hours for a 150 gm dose with a 69 hours average. a high dose of anafranil which exceeds more than 200mg side effects of the drug are more likely to show up, especially the high risk of seizures.

some drugs may slow down or reduce anafranil concentration in blood and hence decrease or stop its action. for example, some drugs affect you liver enzymes accelerating the metabolism of the drug like: barbiturates, cimetidine, flecainide, fluoxetine, fluvoxamine, methylphenidate, paroxetine, phenothiazines, propafenone, quinidine, sertraline.

precautions before using anafranil

– don’t use anafranil with any other drug of same class TCAs
– don’t take anafranil with other drugs like taking MAO inhibitors (isocarboxazid, linezolid, metaxalone, methylene blue, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine, rasagiline, safinamide, selegiline, tranylcypromine) for at least 14 days.

– tell your doctor if you take any serotonin reuptake inhibitors like citalopram, escitalopram, fluoxetine (Prozac), fluvoxamine, paroxetine, and sertraline (Zoloft), trazodone, or vilazodone.
– avoid the consumption of alcohol and tobacco with anafranil as it may cause serious side effects.

– do not take anafranil if you have recently experienced a heart attack.
– avoid taking grapefruit juice or fruit during the use of anafranil, as it increases the level of them in your body and delays their actions, besides causing serious adverse effects.
– avoid having cranberry juice with anafranil for the same reason.

people who should not take anafranil

people with certain conditions shouldn’t take anfranil:

neuroblastoma
pheochromocytoma
overactive thyroid gland
manic-depression
suicidal thoughts
alcoholism
serotonin syndrome, a type of disorder with high serotonin levels
closed angle glaucoma
heart attack within the last 30 days
an atrioventricular conduction defect in the heart
prolonged QT interval on EKG

finally, you should always consult your doctor about the medications you usually use, and report immediately any side effects or allergies you may experience from anafranil, and do check or ask about the suitable dose of  anafranil for sex.
